EXCLUSIVE AMAZON EXPERIENCE

THE WAORANI

For millennia, the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador, has been home to the Waorani (meaning ‘human beings’ or ‘the people’). Their language, Wao terero, has no relation with any other languages in the area and their origin is still a mystery for anthropologists. They are considered by other indigenous groups as “the fearless of all”.

Until 1956, they had never had any contact with the outside world. The Waorani are outstanding hunters and feared warriors. Threatened by oil exploration and illegal logging practices, their hunter-gatherer society shifted to mostly living in settlements. They have a vast knowledge about their home, the Amazon Rainforest, which stems from a total reliance on the Natural world.

To preserve their culture and forests in a developing world, they have decided to open their doors to visitors from all around, willing to share.

THE JOURNEY

The Waorani people are located in one of the most remote places in the country.  In the Southeast corner of Yasuní National Park, one of the places with the highest Biodiversity on Earth.

There are no roads there and the communities are reached by either 1 hour flight (from Shell town), or a 14 hour outstanding canoe ride (from the Auca road). The trip to the Waorani territory is an adventure in itself, you may travel with us through the Andes surrounded by snow covered volcanoes, and then down through lush cloud forests. When we reach the Amazonian lowlands, our Waorani friends will be waiting for us to take us into their homeland.

Our program is focused on providing a 100% personalized service to our customers while trying to cause minimal cultural and environmental impact.

The groups are established with a minimum of one visitor to a maximum of six participants per trip. The duration of our visits range from five days (including travel days) to eight days (recommended by us), but stays can last up to 12 days.

Our Guides-Chefs prepare delicious international dishes at the campsite. We are very flexible with food and we are able to serve all kinds of diets, including vegetarian, gluten free, lactose intolerant, etc.

A Selection of Chilean and Argentinian wines, cheeses and preserves are always available to our traveler friends.

The pace of our activities will be set by the pace of the community: hunting parties, work in the “chacras” (farm plots), afternoons in the river, bathing and relaxing, fishing trips or just sit and listen to women sing while they teach their young ones.

This is combined with Paleo-diet, a nutritional approach to human genetics, which helps the body to remain strong and full of energy. This is a nutritional plan based on plant foods and proteins consumed during the Paleolithic period. The Paleo-diet consists mainly of meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, refined sugar and processed oils.

The groups are established with a minimum of two visitors to a maximum of six participants per trip. The duration of our visits range from five days (including travel days) to eight days.

And what better setting than the Amazon forest, and what better coach than a Waorani hunter.

Come with us and be part of our experience!!!
